COFFEE TIME IN KUALA LUMPUR

Specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur isn’t the easiest city for a specialty coffee tour. All the cafés are spread out over the city, but that doesn’t mean I visit some amazing coffee places and tried some good coffees.

I was thrilled to visit the city and explore the cafés. Although I didn’t arrive in Kuala Lumpur in the best shape, because I took a food poison as a souvenir from Thailand. I was out of the game for one day and a half (could be worse I know). But it meant less time to explore the specialty coffee culture and meeting baristas. Especially because all the specialty coffee shops are so far away from each other, so you do need some time. I’ve managed to visit 5 cafés. I was also staying in this super pretty hostel with a café next door where you can read more about here.

FEEKA COFFEE ROASTERS

First up Feeka Coffee Roasters. You find this place in the centre of the city. Around 15 minutes walking from BackHome hostel. Feeka is not the only cozy spot in the street. All the places are looking so attractive that you want to walk in. But it was coffee time, so Feeka coffee time. This spot looks already so beautiful from the outside. A lovely garden where there is plenty of places to sit down with a cup of coffee. The inside is a bit dark for my taste, but it’s definitely cozy. Feeka feels more like a brunch place with coffee to me. When I walked in there was only one type of bean available for espresso, so I decided to go for a refreshing cold brew. Which came with a slice of orange. It was very tasty. FEEKA Coffee Roasters Kuala Lumpur Specialty coffee guideCold brew at FEEKA Coffee Roasters Kuala Lumpur Specialty coffee guide

TRANSPARENT

Pretty new in town. I got the tip from the manager of the hostel, BackHome, where I was staying. It’s a concept by One Half. During the day Transparent is a coffee shop and around 5 PM it changes in a cocktail bar. How cool is that. Outside you find the brew bar and inside espresso shots are pulled out of a La Marzocco. When visiting Transparent it feels like being in another city. In a quiet neighborhood and covered by plants you can get zen at this café. I enjoyed a super fruity and floral Ethiopian pour over. Uraga Samii, 2000 masl, variety Heirloom, only 80 bags a year, 10 smallholders, washed process with notes like jasmine, watermelon and peach. It was really well made by the friendly and professional barista who also works at One Half. Transparent Coffee best specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur MalaysiaTransparent Coffee best specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur Malaysia coffeeshops

ONE HALF X ILAIKA

One of the best experiences I had in Kuala Lumpur. I fell in love with this cute café and shop in one. Full of plants and things you just want to buy and amazing coffee. You can’t go wrong with this. I also had the best and biggest piece of banana bread in my life. Sipped an acidic Colombian espresso pulled from the Mirage by a professional lovely barista girl. This café has a relaxing atmosphere where you can hang out all day. As well inside as outside. Next to sipping my daily espresso I also bought a beautiful dress here. This shop is a bit far away, but easy to reach by metro and definitely worth the visit. One Half x Ilaika best specialty coffee of Kuala Lumpur coffeeshop Malaysia caféOne Half x Ilaika coffee shop best specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur MalaysiaOne Half x Ilaika coffee shop best specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

PULP

PULP by Papa Palheta, pretty famous in Kuala Lumpur and you can see that when walking in. It was very crowded inside. It’s not really my type of café. I was missing some atmosphere and authenticity. But maybe this was because I went to PULP after visiting One Half. It just feels a bit massive at PULP. I do know that there is a big company behind and they do a lot to make everything work smoothly, which it does. The cappuccino I ordered was well-made, balanced and pretty. As you might know now I am not a big cappuccino drinker, but I can recognize a perfect cappuccino and this definitely a perfect cup of capp! The taste of coffee and milk was balanced. It still tasted like smooth coffee and not like a cup of hot milk.PULP by Papa Palheta specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur Malaysiacappuccino PULP by Papa Palheta specialty coffee Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
