What else I love next to Specialty Coffee? And bicycles, and cakes. Plants! Yes, I’m a plant lover. They make me so happy. Plants can make a room more cosy and they give it a homey atmosphere. Espai Joliu mix it all up: plants and coffee. Trust me you feel like home here from the moment you step inside.
Espai Joliu, known as a plant concept store in combination with Specialty Coffee in Poblenou, created by Lucia Lopez. Open since December 2015 and a great area to open a place now if you ask me. It is an upcoming neighborhood where you can feel the industrial raw atmosphere and where creative concepts keep popping up. Lot’s of young creative entrepreneurs looking for opportunities here, just like Lucia.
When entering the place you get everything you wish for. Cute plants, raw building, nice staff and great Specialty Coffee. I could totally live in this building. I love the walls with the visible bricks. The place is definitely bigger than I thought. From the front it looks like a small house, but when entering there is a whole space, the coffeeshop, in the back. What I really like about Espai Joliu, next to the cute plants is all the different spaces to sit down. There are some tables, a cosy sofa, stools at the bar, and a high table in the plant shop area. Choose your spot, sit down and relax. All you need to do at Espai Joliu.
Espai Joliu is serving coffee from Nømad Coffee, one of the biggest roasters in Barcelona. The roastery is just around the corner, if you are curious how they roast their coffee. Check the huge Probat! As usual I took a flat white and it was perfectly made by the Italian barista. Great shot of espresso, creamy textured milk with the perfect temperature and lovely latte art. The coffee they prepare at their beautiful La Marzocco. Next to espresso based drinks, they also have pour-over like V60. If you’re not a coffeelover (is that possible?) than you can also sip a cup of tea, a biologic juice or a beer.
Next to the great coffee, you should definitely try some food. I am a big fan of the cakes and cookies here. You might already know that I am cookiemonster, but really this is one of my favorite places in Barcelona to have something yummy-for-my-tummy. The banana bread is to die fore, same as the chocolate oat cookies. And don’t panic, it’s all organic.
Not only plants will make you happy. You can also find illustrations, pottery, and magazines like Drift or Kinfolk.
I couldn’t stop taking pictures in Espai Joliu. Every corner, every table, every area looks so beautiful, cute and cosy. I felt home here straight away and I didn’t want to leave. The plants make you feel so relaxed and zen and the caffeine keeps you going. For me the perfect place to work (there is wifi!). I am really in love with the concept. I am always searching for different kind of concepts always combined with Specialty Coffee and Espai Joliu is the perfect example of how it needs to be done. Plants, pottery, design and Specialty Coffee and yummy cakes.
