Coffee Memories Melbourne Part 1

Coffee Memories Melbourne Part 1

Something that was on my bucketlist since I started working as a Barista in 2012 was going to Melbourne, the capital of specialty coffee. To be honest I didn’t come up with the idea myself, but the head barista at the café kind of whispered it in my mind, and on my bucketlist. Combined with reading an article about it in a coffee mag. That’s how it happend. And in 2019 it was my time to cross it off. I’ve stayed five months in this Australian city. It’s time for some coffee memories.

In those five months I didn’t write a single word about it on my blog. It was about time to start focussing on myself. Taking little steps out of my unbalanced coffee life and find other things I love to do. l needed a break. Not from drinking coffee, but coffee as my job and hobby. Funny because I planned to go to Melbourne to bring my coffee skills to a higher level, network and be part of the specialty coffee community. And I had this on my bucketlist for 8 years already.

Barista life

But it was time for a change and I have zero regrets the way I enjoyed my time in Melbourne. It was exactly what I needed. People sometimes ask me if it is hard to get a job in the city. I have to say no, but I will explain this later on in another blogpost (because I get many questions). I was offered a job at Industry Beans and I still feel so grateful for getting this opportunity. But in the end I turned it down. Because I wasn’t ready to work fulltime as a Barista. I wouldn’t bring the same joy and passion in the job as I had before. I didn’t think it was fair to the manager and the team to not give myself for 200% or be unmotivated, bored, or frustrated after a couple of months. I took a job as a Café Manager where I was mainly working on the floor and maybe once or twice a week behind the coffee machine. And I am happy I made that decision.

In my free time I was going to my favorite cafés, explore some new ones, taking photos of the cafés and just enjoy a cup of coffee. I did a coffee tour with fellow coffee blogger Charlie and did a little coffee tour in Cairns. Now it’s time to share some of my coffee moments in Melbourne show you the coffee shops you can’t miss when visiting the capital of specialty coffee. I call this The Minimalistic White Edition.
